About University Informatics Centre
The University Informatics Centre (UIC) has been functioning since 1994 and has grown from a single desktop managed by one technical person to a full-fledged centre at the moment. The Bharathidasan University Informatics Centre is one among the best and well equipped Informatics Centres in the Country. The Centre has a strong information system team consisting of (i) Systems Group (ii) Hardware Support Group (iii) Network Group and (iv) Portal Group. The Centre caters to the needs of the Information & Communication Technology (ICT) of the Post Graduate Students, Research Scholars and Faculty Members of the University. Also, the UIC encourages and motivates the students and staff of the affiliated colleges to use the various computing facilities and information resources available to the maximum possible. UIC manages and controls the networks of both the campuses, maintains servers (web, mail and database) and develops, deploys and updates websites/web-applications of the University.
The UIC houses a large computing center with 135 desktops which are by and large used by the PG students and research scholars from various departments of the University. The technical team of the UIC provides technical support to the computing facilities/network infrastructure in the departments and constituent colleges on a regular basis and at the time of need.
The UIC offers different teaching programmes (both theory and practice) on programming to the PG students studying in different University departments. The UIC also offers computer related awareness programmes for the college teachers (non-computer science) during the time of refresher courses and orientation programmes conducted by the Academic Staff College of the University.
