With the combined effort of Government of Tamil Nadu and Bharathidasan University, Bharathidasan University Constituent College for Women was started at Orathanadu on 17th September 2006, which is also the Birth Anniversary of great Reformer Thanthai Periyar. The college is mainly meant for rural women students. It was started with a strength of 113 students enrolled in 5 under graduate courses. Now in a spell of eleven years the college has grown up to provide 14 Under Graduate , 6 Post Graduate courses, 2 M.Phil Courses and 5 Research Departments with a strength of 3452 students with 151 teaching and non-teaching staff under its roof.

Initially the college was functioning in a rented Chathiram Building and later it has moved to its own beautiful buildings constructed in a portion of 33 acres of land acquired for the college. The college has well equipped Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Computer Science, Physics and Geology Laboratories. Library caters the needs of students and has more than 7100 books and Journals covering Arts, Science and Commerce fields.

The College was recognized by UGC and accorded 2f and 12B status during the year 2011. It received funds from UGC and constructed a women’s hostel. With the fund assistance from UGC, career oriented course on Communicative English is conducted. Remedial coaching classes for the benefit of students are also conducted with the financial assistance from Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education.

IQAC, Counseling and Redressal cell, Training and Placement cell, Anti ragging cell, Women empowerment wing, Cultural wing, Entrepreneurship and Skill Development cell, Alumni association, Parent Teachers association and Department Associations are functioning in the College.

Vision and Mission


The vision and Mission of the college is to educate and empower rural women students hailing from economically weaker sections and to empower women students as socially responsible citizens by imparting self confidence, courage , creative thinking, to provide opportunities, to acquire expertise and academic excellence and to prepare for employment opportunities.

Extra-Curricular Activities


To create awareness and involve the students in extracurricular activities, the college has established the following activities and is functioning commendably.

1. National Service Scheme (NSS)
2. Red Ribbon Club (RRC)
3. Youth Red Cross (YRC)

Our NSS officers Mrs. M.Elampirai, Assistant Professor and head, Department of Management and Dr. N. Gejeswari, Assistant Professor, Department of English received University NSS Best Programme Officer Award for the year 2016-2017 from NSS Cell, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli.

The special interest shown by the officials of Bharathidasan University and Well wishers ever since the day of Inauguration, the college has achieved enormous development.
