Having taken their Ph.D's from abroad or
from well-reputed institutions, and obtaining
Post Doctoral Training in the U.S., U.K., Germany,
etc., the faculty members have shown great interest
in teaching as well as research. A perusal of
the publications reveals that all the faculty
members have shown great interest in raising funds
from National agencies for their research work.
Sincere attempts have been made to enhance the
quality of their research work and also to publish
in better and leading journals. Whenever possible
the faculty members have vistited leading research
laboratories abroad and in India to enter into
collaborative work to obtain the latest and updated
knowledge in their fields and also to deliver
lectures. The improvement in quality of research
can be seen from the fact that most of the Ph.Ds
trained in the Department are working as post-doctoral
fellows abroad on collaborative research projects,
as lecturers/Readers/Professors in educational
institutes like National University of Mexico
and as Scientists in National Institutes and industries.
Early in 1987 the Department initiated the M.Sc.
(Chemistry) Course with an aim to extending its
expertise to young chemists. It has succeeded
in preparing high quality PG students, who are
now occupying high positions in research and teaching
institutions in India and abroad. Several of them
are doing their doctoral study in IISc. and IIT’s
in India as well as in Taiwan, Singapore, England
and Switzerland.
Realizing certain difficulties in improving and
revising the curriculum as well as in the conduct
of examinations in the University system the Department
rightly thought of and obtained even at the ouset
the autonomous status in running the M.Sc. Program.
Leading and reputed academicians from other establilshed
and premiere institutes (IISc.,IIT’s, Universities)
have been invited on their Board of Studies for
drafting and revamping the curriculum and as board
of examiners. The Curriculum has been revamped
once in three years.
The Department has introduced Choice Based Credit
System from the academic year 2002.
Recognising the talents and achievements of the
Department, the University has sanctioned one
more floor on the existing building.
Invited lectures by leading subject experts and
scientists are arranged for the students to get
motivated and gain updated knowledge.
