The Department of Geography, School of
Geosciences, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli
is organizing a two-day National Seminar on Application
of Geomatics in Climatology for the
researchers and faculty members
in the fields of Geosciences during March 25 and
26, 2010. Geomatics is the science and technology of
three dimensional measurement, mapping and visualization
of spatial and non-spatial phenomena. The applications
encompass in the fields of natural resources management,
resources planning and decision making. New technologies
have emerged because of this capability - specifically
the Geomatics which allows synergism of map data and
tabular data in the most efficient manner. Geomatics
allows the integration of these data sets for deriving
meaningful information and outputting these information
derivatives in map format or tabular format. Geomatics
also allows the organization of databases which have
both the map - spatial data, and the tabular-non-spatial
data, in an integrated manner. The database is best
utilized for the planning and decision making at
different levels.
Over the last decade, research has
greatly increased into the use of geomatics in a variety
of applications that involve the processing of
climatological and meteorological data. Direct or
indirect meteorological observations provide different
thematic layers of information that can be useful new
parameters describing the state of the atmosphere. In
particular, geomatics methods allow the detailed
analysis of spatial patterns of various atmospheric
parameters, providing an in depth look into the
regularities and variability of weather and climate over
time and space. In the light of the above, the School of
Geosciences, Bharathidasan University, with its
experience in teaching and research, is organizing a
two-day National Seminar on Application of Geomatics in
Climatology for the researchers and faculty members in
geosciences during March 25 and 26, 2010.

The
Department of Geography has a unique image And map library
which is a warehouse of spatial information Required for
practical exercise, project work and research. It has got
aerial photographs and topographic sheets are Also
available. Topographic Digital Data and IRS 1C satellite
Digital data are available for the entire
Tamil Nadu. The Library contains around one thousand
volumes besides Scientific journals and the reports. The
library has fairly Up to-date data literature collection in
the areas of hydrology, Land resources, remote sensing,
regional planning, cartography, Image processing, GIS and
its applications.
The following equipments are available in the Department IBM
