Department of Environmental Biotechnology

UGC-SAP and DST-FIST Sponsored Department

This main focus of the Department of Environmental Biotechnology is intended for those wishing to gain comprehensive training and experience of how molecular based technologies can be used to investigate the environment (natural and affected) and provide potential solution through by developing novel microbes, receptor based pesticide, Ecotoxicogenomics approach and identification of eco-sensitive areas through Remote Sensing (RS) and GIS. Training is also provided for the remediation of environmental damage through mineral recycling, waste utilization, pollution control and bioremediation of toxicants in treatment of domestic and industrial waste. An ethical and other related issue with respect to the release of genetically modified organism in the environment is also being studied in detail. Focus is also made to provide the student to understand the theory and practice of molecular genetics and molecular biology approaches for the environmental and ecological problems.
