The Department of Marine Science (DMS) started functioning from July 2005, with the aim of quality teaching and research in Oceanography and its importance with reference to latest developments on global scenario. The Biogeochemical cycles in marine environment, Land-Ocean interactions, Transformation of pollutants through river basin to Ocean, Coastal Zone Management, Marine geology and geophysics, Marine Biology, Marine Biodiversity & Conservation, Coastal & Marine Aquaculture, Fishery Science, Marine Pharmacology and Marine Biotechnology are the thrust area of research. The department offers PG level programme on Marine Science as well as M. Phil. and Ph.D. programmes. The department delivers innovative and excellent instruction. DMS faculty and students carry out high quality scientific research and publish its results in publications of national and international reputation. Also it extends technical assistance to the state in addressing marine sciences-related issues and concerns and addresses, as appropriate, regional, national and international issues and concerns. DMS has thus developed a strong expertise in various aspects of ocean science. The Department aims on state-of-the-art laboratory facility with international standards and exchange of global scientific knowledge.
