The Department has limited human resource, but still they are qualified and committed to offer consultancy and counselling to women in distress and other areas of gender. Counselling programmes have been helping the University Department Students to conduct evaluation studies, to overcome stress and distraction in their studies, to identify prospective employment opportunities etc.
Consultancy to grassroot organisations to UN Orgasnisations has been offered in the areas of research, training, extension, gender sensitivity and other areas related to women empowerment. Consultancy is offered to SHG women to identify suitable opportunities to improve their livelihood, both in rural and urban areas. Large number of aspiring women entrepreneurs are advised on, what sort of business or enterprises to begin, what to invest in, what would be the break even period etc. Through Women Entrepreneurs Association of Tamil Nadu, the Department is offering consultancy to initiate micro enterprises, identify prospective marketing channels, and facilitate various institutions working for women entrepreneurs’ promotion including banks, industrial promotional organisations, NGOs, private industries, Institutes etc to offer their programmes to women.
Counselling is offered for adolescent girls in Arts and Science and Engineering Colleges, Schools especially for the girls in distress and lack of coping up skills. Free legal counselling are recommended through the respective women’s organisation to get free legal aid and counselling and see their issues solved. Issues relating to Sexual Harassment at Work Places for women, among students are addressed as per the provisions of Vishaka Judgement of Supreme Court guidelines.
Gender Sensitization given to persons employed in National level organisations, presentation of the gender issues of the local region to the national level and offer advocacy, including UNICEF Project Co-ordinators working on HIV/AIDS, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute for Youth Development, National Institute for Rural Development, School Teachers, Students, Out of School Youth, Adolescent youth, students of Colleges affiliated to Bharathidasan University, budding women entrepreneurs, NGOs staff , SHG women and other grass root persons.
Consultancy on enhancing and strengthening the skills for future women contestants in elections to United Nations Democratic Fund [UNDEF] through Council for Social Research, Harmful Traditional Practices affecting women and children to UNESCAP, sanitation and water to UNDP etc.
