Department of Women's Studies
Department of Women’s Studies, formerly Centre for Women’s Studies (CWS) Bharathidasan University Tiruchirappalli was established with the UGC funding on November 5th 2004 with an objective to promote gender equality at all spheres of society. The activities of the Centre include Teaching, Research, Training, Extension, Documentation, Publication, Dissemination and Transmission, Seminars / Workshops, Advocacy, Counseling & Consultancy Networking and Coordination. With such multifaceted activities, the Centre has been involved in formulating theories and making recommendations on the basis of the Research Studies and Field Work Experiences, thereby trying to create an impact on the society to address various inequalities. Appreciating the progress and achievements of the Centre and the full fledged Academic Programmes offered, the UGC Advisory Committee recommended the University to elevate the Centre to a Departmental Statusin February 2007. The University positively considered UGC’s recommendation and elevated the Centre to Department of Women’s Studies in March 2007.
