Curriculum Development


Entire syllabus with class room lecture and field work practicum components for M.A. M.Phil were prepared and being updated by the faculty members, and appreciated by the Board of Studies.


Participated in Designing Curriculum and programme guide for the Gender Studies P.G Programme to be offered at Rajiv Gandhi National Institute for Youth Development.

Identified Need Based P.G Diploma and Diploma Courses on Life Skills and Counselling and Micro Enterprise Development.

Designed the syllabus for a compulsory course on “Women and Legal Rights” as per the direction of High Court Tamil Nadu for UG level.

Designed the Syllabus for a compulsory course on Foundation Course on Gender Studies for Under Graduate Levels as per the UGC direction.

Capacity Building


Regular UGC sponsored Sensitiation, Awareness and Motivation [SAM] programme under Capacity Building of Women Managers in Higher Education both Residential and Non-Residential in 2007 for the College and University Teachers to improve their leadership and administrative skills with gender perspectives promoting 30 teachers each.

Apparel Training Centre with the support of the University (Rs. 30 Lakhs worth of Machineries and roughly one Lakh per month as recurring grant for five years from 2008 and generating employment to around for 30 - 40 youth every month.

Innovative Non – traditional areas of Women Entrepreneurship


Promoted 120 women in Engineering and Fabrication, training them on Welding, and managerial aspects of engineering and 14 partnership concerns were facilitated to get registered as vendors to BHEL.


Sanitary Napkin Training for Women, SHG women to produce low cost cotton based sanitary napkin production and sell it through Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine in Rural Schools and among Rural Women to motivate the rural women to sanitary napkin usage practice and thereby address the issues of cervical cancer and other reproductive health issues faced by the women.


Promotion of women in non-traditional and technical based training who are not formally quailed on the field to start engineering and fabrication units.


An Exclusive Industrial Estate for Women as a Cluster Engineering and Fabrication unit at Kumbakudi for 100 women with 50 units as partnership concerns.


Facilitated the women to have an Association called Women Entrepreneurs Association of Tamil Nadu.
Facilitated 50 women to become entrepreneurs in a separate Industrial Estate at Sirugamani G.K. Industrial Park.


More than 100 women entrepreneurs produced in various other areas including eco friendly products, readymade garments, sanitary napkin ITES etc which in turn has been able to extend Direct and indirect employment opportunities on home based activities to 1000s of women.

Out Reach


Programmes of Department are planned to reach colleges, students, NGOs, SHG and other rural women and the public directly in 1000s and to lakhs of women through various Media.


Meet the Women at the Grass roots through various programmes organized by Colleges, NGOs, Government Departments, NSS, Students of Social Work, Women’s Studies, etc which facilitate the reach of Women’s Studies Programmes and intervention to rural areas and to the public.
