The Bharathidasan
Institue of Technology of the Bharathidasan University (BIT),Tiruchirappalli is a unique experiment in offering technology oriented degree programmes. The School of Engineering and Technology was established in the year 1999 and is a constituent college of the Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli. This university is accredited at ‘A’ level among the universities, by the NAAC.
The School was started, initially with 4 branches of technology, namely, Biotechnology, Information Technology, Petrochemical Technology and Pharmaceutical Engineering & Technology. This was the time when the branch of Information Technology has been just introduced in Tamilnadu and many colleges were yet to start this particular course.
The School has also started a B.Tech level Automobile Technology programme in
the academic year 2004-05 and the Post Graduate programmes of M.Tech in
Software Engineering and M.Pharm in Pharmaceutics, in the year
2005-06. An M.Tech programme in Energy Conservation and Management is also being offered for the past few years.
This School, being a part of Bharathidasan University, has the advantage of getting good support form the other departments of university in basic sciences, computer science and departments in the areas of biotechnology. The School has recruited a number of young and energetic engineers who are devoted to teaching and who have been able to carry forward the objectives with which this School has been started.
The curriculum for all the courses have been prepared in collaboration with the respective industries and experts from which will also be involved in the teaching of the programmes as visiting faculty. The School is situated in a architecturally designed building and has the advantage of having a 1 Mbps internet connectivity. The infrastructure will soon be expanded with more buildings including seminar halls, laboratories, one more boys hostel and girls hostel etc.
The
School has been given full academic autonomy from the year 2005-06 and will be following the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) from this academic year onwards.
To
make the graduates coming out of this School from the point of view of industries and on the encouragements from our Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, a Training and Placement Cell has been set up, initially to train the B.Tech graduates in communication skills, interpersonal relationship, leadership and aptitude. Training will also be given to students for the competitive examinations like GMAT, GATE, GRE, CAT etc
I, therefore, appeal to all the industries to visit the School of Engineering and Technology, Bharathidasan University to interview the budding engineers and technologists and select as many candidates as possible for their industry and they can be rest assured that the School will extend all the possible help for conducting the placement activities.
