The Central Workshop, a centralized instrumentation maintenance and fabricational laboratory was established along with the Science Departments of the then Autonomous Post Graduate Centre of the University of Madras in 1978, under the Vth five Year Plan. It was established with a grant of Rs. 1.5 lakhs from the University Grants Commission
The workshop was housed at the Department of Physics of the then Post Graduate Centre. Consequent to the creation of the Bharathidasan University, it was moved to the Palkalaiperur Campus on 11-12-87 in a separate building.
The present Workshop Consists of
1.One Machine Shop Laboratory
2.One Glass Blowing Laboratory
The Workshop has been convened by one of the Professors of the Science departments.
