Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, India

Nanotechnology involves new techniques and methods of synthesising nano-structures with outstanding physical, chemical, electrical and mechanical properties, and developing products with new functionalities from the emerging nano materials.

Nanoscience and Nanotechnology is a new branch of Science, Engineering and Technology which provides a platform to bring all physicists, chemists, biologists, engineers and technologists under one roof. Nanotechnology is an interdisciplinary emerging field in science and technology.

About the Centre

Centre for NanoScience and NanoTechnology (CNT) was established in 2008 to address the various issues of science and technology considering the interdisciplinary nature of emerging field cutting across Science, Engineering and Technology. The university has funded about 10 million Indian Rupees to develop infrastructure for the fabrication and probing of nanostructured materials. Though the Centre is relatively young, we have diversified our research interest from Nanomaterials to biological applications including the nanowire based Field Emission Transistor (FET) biosensor and stabilizing liposome using nano particles and organic light emitting diodes. Interfacing nano and bio system would create new and powerful tools that enable direct, sensitive and rapid analyses of bio and chemical molecules and also screening of new drug molecules.

The mission of the Centre is to promote, develop and binding interdisciplinary research activities in Bharathidasan University.

To undertake Research & Development (R&D) and establish leadership in the intellectually exciting and emerging field by interfacing nanostructures with BIOSYSTEM for diverse and exciting applications in lifesciences.

To educate and train a new generation of students with truly interdisciplinary skills capable of leading future NT advances in Indian academia and industries.

To develop cutting-edge technology and to protect intellectual property rights, technology to explore commercial NW Biosensor.

To establish "Nano User Facility (NUF)" with several state of the art of experimental facilities
