About the Centre

The Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy has come into existence in Bharathidasan University during the academic year 2008-09. The Centre has been conceptualized as a rallying point, as well as, a source of inspiration for all other civil society organizations working on the related issues concerning SC/ST, Minority Religious groups, and other marginalized and socially excluded sections of the society. The major concern of this academic body is to analyze the societal lapses faced by a chunk of the population who have been excluded socially. The ever deepening crisis in social, political, and economic spheres and the escalating tyranny of the traditionally dominant/hegemonic known as the majority, on the one hand, and the rise of consciousness among Dalits and Minorities on the question of their legitimate rights, the growing global attention on internal socio-politics on the other, call for a paradigmatic shift.

Since, Social Exclusion also reflects the prerequisite to have a mindset that needs a behavioural change in every one in the society to aggrandize the conditions of the marginalized groups from social isolation into the mainstream of social life, this Centre aims at liberating the marginalized by redeeming them from their untold misery and tragic sufferings and ultimately to include them in the main stream of Development by way of inclusive approach in social, economic, cultural and Psychological realm and there by creating an egalitarian society to make every Indian proud of himself and his Country. The task of the Centre thus gains greater relevance in the light of the presently witnessed social milieu and economic growth which demands immediate attention.

The Centre, therefore, generates academic debates and discussions to fulfill its objectives by formulating the outcome of the academic fora in a non-partisan and plural manner within the framework of social justice to achieve egalitarian society as an extension and elaboration Social Development. Such a broad-based view will bring the Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy right at the centre stage of the debates for the benefit of the students in training and assistance of researchers of different faculties.

The Department Library currently has a total of 361 titles, mostly on topics related to social exclusion, marginalization and development. This facility is available with the CSSEIP for the benefit of the Students, Researchers and Faculty who are interested in the study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy.
