Actitivies (2021-2022)


 Tree Plantation Programme
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University organised a tree plantation programme on 24.09.2021 in the university campus as a part of NSS Day celebrations and 75th Year of Independence. Dr. M. Selvam, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University presided over the programme. Dr. G. Gopinath, Registrar and Dr. S. Srinivasa Ragavan, Controller of Examinations offered felicitations. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Programme Coordinator proposed the Vote of Thanks. Earlier, Dr. P. Masilamani, NSS Programme Officer of Bharathidasan University welcomed the gathering. Professors, Staff from various departments of the University along with NSS Volunteers, NSS Programme Officers participated in the programme. The Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the plantation programme by planting the first sapling. 75 tree saplings were planted to mark the 75th Year of Independence. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Programme Coordinator of Bharathidasan University made the arrangements for the programme.

 Pre-RD Selection Camp
The University level Pre-Republic Day (Pre-RD) Parade Selection Camp of Bharathidasan University was held on 06.10.2021 at Bharathidasan University Campus for selecting 8 suitable NSS Volunteers (4 Male & 4 female) for the South Zone Pre-RD Camp.
The NSS Cell had communicated to all the NSS implementing colleges about the Pre-RD selection camp. The NSS Cell made all the necessary arrangements for measuring the height, weight, running, drill, etc. of the NSS Volunteers and made the ground facilities at the University campus for selection. All the Covid-19 precautionary steps were also made by the NSS Cell. A selection committee has been constituted comprising the following members:

The selection committee carried out the selection process meticulously by testing the Volunteers’ Physical Fitness, Marching, commanding capacity and cultural skills. A personal interview also conducted for the shortlisted volunteers. The committe selected 8 NSS Volunteers (4 male & 4 female) for the South Zone Pre-RD Selection Camp and also 4 Volunteers were selected as wait listed candidates.

 NSS Advisory Committee Meeting
The University Level NSS Advisory Committee Meeting of Bharathidasan University for the year 2021-22 was held on 07.10.2021 at 11.00 a.m. in the Syndicate Hall of the university under the chairmanship of the Honourable Vice Chancellor of Bharathidasan University. Total of 13 resolutions were passed in the meeting.

 Cleaning Campaign at Thanjavur on 22.10.2021
The NSS cell of Bharathidasan University conducted a mega cleaning programme at Sri Brahadeeswarar temple, Thanjavur on 22.10.2021. The City Corporation Commissioner, Mr. Saravana Kumar inaugurated the cleaning programme in the presence of NSS Programme Coordinator of Bharathidasan University, Dr. A Lakshmi Prabha. Clean India oath was administered to all the NSS volunteers. Around 600 NSS volunteers (both boys and girls) actively participated in the mega cleaning campaign. The volunteers collected the single use plastic items, leaves, waste papers, etc.

 Cleaning Campaign at Tiruchirappalli on 23.10.2021
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University conducted a mega cleaning camp at Anna Stadium, Trichy on 23.10.2021. The honourable Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University, Dr. M. Selvam inaugurated the camp in the presence of Registrar, Dr. G. Gopinath, NSS Programme Coordinator, Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, District Sports Officer, Mr. Prabhu and other dignitaries. Around 500 NSS Volunteers participated in the cleaning process. Later the volunteers cleaned the Khajamalai Campus of the University. The collected garbage was handed over to the Tiruchirappalli City Corporation. The volunteers cleaned the single use plastic items, carry bags, leaves, waste papers, etc.

 Cleaning Campaign at Karur on 28.10.2021
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University organised a cleaning camp at Vennaimalai, Karur on 28.10.2021. The NSS Programme Coordinator of Bharathidasan University, Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha inaugurated the cleaning camp in the presence of Mrs. Kirubavathi, Panchayat President of Vennaimalai, Karur District. The Volunteers cleaned the Murugan Temple, streets, roadsides, corporation office, etc. Around 700 Volunteers participated in the camp. The volunteers collected the single use plastic items, waste papers, carry bags, etc.

 Cleaning Campaign at Sitthanavasal on 28.10.2021
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University organised a cleaning camp at Sithanavasal, Pudukkottai district on 28.10.2021 under the guidance of the NSS Programme Coordinator of Bharathidasan University, Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha. Around 200 Volunteers participated in the camp. The volunteers collected the single use plastic items, Paper cups, carry bags, leaves, waste papers, etc.

 Inauguration of Refurbished Herbal Garden
The herbal garden was established in the University’s Palkalaiperur campus during the year 2018 in view of the NAAC peer team visit to the university. The refurbished herbal garden was inaugurated by the Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu and the Chancellor of Bharathidasan University, Mr. R.N. Ravi on 08.12.2021. He planted the “Indian Vael" type plant in the garden and interacted with the Students and Research Scholars assembled in the herbal garden about their research with a smiling face. Around 100 different plants were planted that includes Vitex negundo, Solanum trilobatum, Aloe vera, Ocimum tenuiflorum, Coleus amboinicus, Centellaasiatica, etc. all of medicinal importance plants. This herbal garden is very useful for the students and staff members especially for the life science and botany departments’ students for their studies and research.

 Orientation Programme on Life Skills and Ending Child Marriage
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University in association with the State Resource Centre for non-formal & continuing education, Chennai jointly organised an “One Day Orientation Programme on Life Skills and Ending Child Marriage" for NSS Volunteers on 15.03.2022 in the University campus. Mrs. V. Anbu Priyavathani, Director, State Resource Centre for Non-formal & Continuing Education, Chennai and Mrs. Saranya Satheesh, Child Protection Officer, Adolescent Empowerment & Ending Child Marriage Programme, Department of Social Welfare & Women Empowerment, Tamil Nadu oriented the Volunteers about the importance of ending child marriage and protecting the women child. The Registrar of Bharathidasan University, Dr. L. Ganesan was the chief guest for the valediction programme. During his address, he said that when a girl is getting married below 18 years of age, she will deliver an underweight child, which results in a weaker society. He also insisted the Volunteers to make awareness and educate the society during their camp. The Registrar gave away the certificates to the participants. Dr. A. Around 60 volunteers from various colleges participated in the programme. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Coordinator of Bharathidasan University made the arrangements for the programme.

 Fit India Awareness Programme
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University organised an awareness Programme on “Fit India" for the NSS Volunteers on 25.03.2022 in the University Campus. Dr. A. Palanisamy, Professor, Department of Physical Education welcomed the gathering. The Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University, Dr. M. Selvam presided over the inauguration programme. He emphasised the importance of mental health. He also insisted that attitude determines the altitude of an individual. The Registrar of Bharathidasan University, Dr. L. Ganesan offered felicitation. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Programme Coordinator of Bharathidasan University proposed the Vote of Thanks. Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor flagged off the Fit India Walkathon.

During the Technical Session, Dr. N.D. Parimala Devi, Former Dean, Govt. Medical College, Pudukkottai spoke on "Life Style Modification Regarding Fitness of the Body". Dr. B. Dhakshinamoorthy, Guest Lecturer, Gandhigram Rural Institute trained the Volunteers with Yoga. Dr. A. Murugan, Assistant Director of Physical Education, University College of Engineering, Bharathidasan Institute of Technology Campus, Anna University, Trichy explained about “Secret of Maintaining Sound body".

Around 200 NSS Volunteers and NSS Programme Officers from various colleges of Trichy participated in the programme. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Coordinator of Bharathidasan University made the arrangements for the programme.

 Women Empowerment and Personality Development Programme
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University organised a one day seminar on Women Empowerment and Personality Development Programme for the NSS Volunteers on 29.03.2022 in the University Campus. During the Technical Session, Dr. K. Ruckmani, Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Anna University, Trichy spoke on “Women & Mental Health". Dr. A.K. Chithra, Associate Professor, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College, Perambalur spoke on the topic, “Women Empowerment" and finally Dr. R. victor Lazarous, Associate Professor, Dept. of Management Studies, Bishop Heber College Trichy spoke about “Personality Development". During the valediction ceremony of the programme Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Coordinator of Bharathidasan Unviersity welcomed the gathering. The Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University, Dr. M. Selvam presided over the inauguration programme. During his presidential address, he stated that “The students should learn more languages including Tamil and English, the girls should express their views and perceptions like an arrow from the Bow". Dr. P. Masilamani, NSS Programme officer of Bharathidasan University proposed the Vote of Thanks. The dignitaries presented the participation certificates to the participants. Around 250 NSS Volunteers and NSS Programme Officers from various colleges of Trichy participated in the programme. Dr. A.
