Department of Biotechnology

Keeping in view the trends among the reputed institutes across the country, e.g JNU, MKU, BHU etc. the University has taken a visionary step. The department of Biotechnology which was earlier under the School of Life Sciences, has been elevated to the School of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, initially with two departments viz; 1) Department of Biotechnology and 2) Department of Industrial Biotechnology w.e.f. 28th June, 2012.

Our academic programmes are recognized in the South zone as a leading one from the teaching and research point of view.

The departments aim is to provide trained manpower in different areas of Biotechnology to supplement the country’s demands. A significant number of our students are pursuing their Ph.D’s and Post-Doc’s abroad. The Department is likely to expand soon to perform scientific research & technological development in the frontier areas of Biotechnology. The present faculty in the Department of Biotechnology have rolled out 52 M.Phil, 55 Ph.D’s, 36 ADMD and obtained grants of more than 4 crores. The faculty also offers consultancy in their respective fields of specialization.
