  • The Department is having autonomy on running the MA Programme in Tamil. The CBCS Pattern was implemented in MA Programme in the year 2002. The strength of the students is limited to twenty. After the completion of the course the candidates will have a thorough knowledge of Tamil Literature and Tamil Language. Besides this, the students will have a basic knowledge of Journalism, Translation, Comparative Literature and Folklore. The Papers like Linguistics, Comparative Literature, Translation, and Folklore enhance the knowledge of students on various perspectives apart from the papers on Literature and Grammar. Thus the MA Course offered by our Department is multi dimensional in nature and is job oriented. The syllabus of the MA Course is prepared by the Board of Studies. The Board is constituted by the University with the head of the Department of Tamil Studies as the Chairman of the Board, and the faculty members of the Department as internal members and three invited expert members and one old student as external members. Generally the board is supposed to meet once in two years and if required the board will meet earlier.
