Univeristy Medical Centre :: Health and Wellbeing

The University Health Centre was initially established in the year 1993. Initially, the Health Centre was located near the Administrative Building and functioned from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Subsequently, the University Health Centre was renamed as the Medical Centre and shifted to the Fitness Centre at the Sports Science Block, Periyar Salai in main campus. The Medical Centre was inaugurated on 18th February 2019 by the then Trichy City Police Commissioner, Dr. A. Amalraj, I.P.S.

At present, the Medical Centre provides medical services exclusively to the University students, staff members and residents of nearby Villages. A doctor is available for 15 hours a day from 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. The Medical Centre also provides 24 X 7 Staff Nurse coverage, with two Staff Nurses and two Paramedical Staff.

The Medical Centre is equipped with 3 beds, a stretcher, wheelchair, multiparameter monitor, defibrillator, ECG, nebulizer, autoclave, oxygen concentrator, suction apparatus and oxygen cylinders. It functions round the clock and is supported by a 24×7 ambulance service with first-aid facilities.

On average, around 40 patients are attended to per day, including University staff members and people from nearby villages.

    Management of minor injuries, acute illnesses and medical emergencies; stabilization and referral of serious cases to nearby tertiary-care hospitals.

  • Diagnostic Facilities

    ECG, blood glucose testing, pulse oximetry, blood pressure and temperature measurement, along with other vital-sign monitoring facilities.

  • Student Health Services

    Medical support for students residing in hostels, medical assistance during examinations, sports activities and major University events.

  • Health Records and Documentation

    Maintenance of patient records and documentation of consultations, referrals and treatments provided.

  • Infection Prevention and Safety

    Proper biomedical waste management and sterilization/disinfection of reusable medical instruments.

  • Pharmacy Services

    An on-site pharmacy caters to the medical needs of students and staff by maintaining a well-stocked inventory of essential medicines.
