School of Life Sciences
Department of Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics has emerged as a separate discipline of study in life sciences bringing in the methods of mathematics, statistics and computer science to organize, analyze the biological data and to provide a molecular understanding of living systems. It has received greater attention in the post-genomic era. This has made it necessary to train a new breed of human resource skilled in both computing and biology. Realizing the importance of this emerging field and in order to study the biological problems with computational skills, Bharathidasan University has established a separate Department of Bioinformatics, as a part of its School of Life Sciences during UGC X-plan in the year 2005 with the faculty strength of one Reader and Two Lecturers. Within the short span time, the Department has grown into a vibrant academic department and research centre in Bioinformatics within the Bharathidasan University area. The Department is poised to make great strides in higher education, research and extension activities in the coming years.
Vision
To develop high quality human resource required for both academics and industries as well as to pursue research in the frontier areas of bioinformatics of international standard.
Mission
