The Department of Biochemistry is amongst the most vibrant and premiere departments in the country that was established in the year 2005. Department offers a two-year M.Sc., Programme and Ph.D., Programme in Biochemistry. We support M.Sc., Life Science (5-year integrated) students and handle courses related to Biochemistry. Biochemistry is an integrated subject fulfilling the need of both basic as well as applied aspects of biology and prepares the students to become entrepreneur, teacher, researcher, or to fit into equipping themselves to the future needs along with the basic and applied knowledge of modern biology. Keeping in view the updates and trends among international institutes around the world, we frequently update the syllabus inculcating international standards and modernize the curriculum that will benefit our younger generation and qualify them to contribute to the welfare of the society. One of the commendable contributions of the Department has been the creation and sustenance of a rigorous, dynamic and vivacious Master’s program in Biochemistry that imparts conventional and new knowledge in an innovative manner ensuring the fresh, young minds are trained and oriented to create newer knowledge in turn.

All Faculty members of Department of Biochemistry have got their research specialization from various leading laboratories around the world and got intense training during their post-doctoral experience. The main areas of research include, Molecular Endocrinology, Molecular Oncology and Molecular Neurogerontology. We have produced more than 50 PhD students who have got placed as Scientist, Faculties in National and International reputed Universities. Our alumni have been placed as Post-doctoral fellows in various leading international institutes in USA, Europe and Asia. Within short span of time, the Department has grown into a vibrant research centre in Biochemistry, where we have made great stride in higher education, research and extension activities in the area of specializations. The Department was recognized for DST-FIST Program in the year 2012. The department has generated funds worth around ten crores for research and infrastructure from various funding agencies such as CSIR, NFMP, DST, DBT, ICMR, TANSCHE and UGC etc., To add on to the credentials, high impact factor publications have been made in well reputed Journals and published many book chapters in the core area of research. The department has hosted many National level Conferences and Workshops benefiting students.
