Department of Environmental Biotechnology


The Department offers:

1. M.Sc., Programme in Environmental Science and Technology. (Two years)

2. M. Phil., Programme in Environmental Biotechnology.(One year)

3. PG Diploma Programme in Environmental Genomics (UGC – Innovative programme). (One year)

4. Ph.D., Environmental Biotechnology and Environmental Science

The curriculum is set in such a way so as to expose the students to the basics of the Science and technological aspects related to the environment. This paves the way for the students and scholars to understand the current environmental issues with possible solutions using advanced techniques. Further the qualified students are also well placed in research institutes, educational institutes, industries etc. The title of the course papers and syllabus was carefully scrutinized and was approved by the Board of Studies comprising the experts in specific fields from various Universities and industries including the alumni. The Board of studies is convened once in every two years to improve and update the curriculum.

Doctoral Programme:

The department of Environmental Biotechnology offers Ph.D., research programmes too. The department has faculties focused in research on various environmental fields like Environmental Toxicology, Insect Molecular Biology, Bio- Spatial technology, Molecular Bioremediation and Nanotechnology, Plant Metabolomics, Chemical Ecology, Water and Solid waste processing and Biomaterial research.


Advertisement for PG and Ph.D. Programmes

Advertisement regarding the courses offered by the department is issued in Tamil and English magazines and also published in University website. Admission for Ph.D programme is scrutinized by the Departmental Research Committee as per the vacancy in the department.


Undergraduate students who have completed their UG degree in any branch of science are eligible for M.Sc., Environmental Science and Technology. For PG diploma in Environmental Genomics under graduates and post graduates are eligible. For M. Phil., programme a PG degree in Life Sciences is eligible. For Ph.D, the selection is made on the basis of university norms.
